Company Overview
Based in Woodinville, WA, privately held Loctronix was founded in 2006. The company is an early-stage venture currently focusing on commercialization of its patented Spectral Compression Positioning™ (SCP) technology.
We like to say that “Loctronix is locked on location”. Our mission is to locate any device anywhere – indoors or outdoors.SCP freely exploits existing signals including GPS, cellular, and digital TV. SCP supports both autonomous and network-based operation modes and delivers highly accurate and reliable location information virtually everywhere. The technology is software-based and can be readily adapted to a variety of consumer and commercial applications.
Emerging Need for Indoor Positioning
Location based services (LBS) is a rapidly growing segment in the wireless industry. Enabled by low-cost GPS chipsets, location technology is found in a multitude of consumer and professional electronics such as cell phones, mobile computing platforms, automotive navigation systems, and asset tracking tags.
GPS and/or Assisted GPS (A-GPS) provides accurate outdoor location capability, particularly for navigation and tracking. Unfortunately, a good deal of wireless usage is indoors and dense urban environments, where GPS does not work well, if at all. With the potential for indoor LBS applications such as social network, friend/child finder, coupons/advertisements and asset tracking, the demand for low-cost, GPS-quality, indoor location information is growing quickly.
Reliable and accurate indoor location requires some level of infrastructure to aid in the location process. Existing indoor location systems based on technologies such as WiFi are being used today. However, these systems lack the robustness to be a consistent and ubiquitous source for reliable indoor locations services.
Loctronix believes the best way to address the indoor location challenge is by exploiting modern communications signals such as cellular and digital TV. These signals have excellent building penetration properties and contain all the information needed to derive very accurate position, velocity, and timing information. Using a combination of these signals it is possible to deliver a GPS-quality experience indoors, providing meter-level positioning accuracy without the need to deploy custom infrastructure.
