Mobile Device Positioning and Navigation
Improved indoor positioning functionality in mobile handsets is a priority for OEM manufacturers seeking to differentiate their products and to provide a more compelling platform for location based services (LBS) applications and services. There is a building demand for indoor applications such friend/family finder, social interaction, coupon/advertisement and pedestrian navigation that require room-level (3 to 5 meters) accuracy position information.
However, complex indoor and urban environments pose a significant challenge for existing handset positioning technologies to deliver precise, reliable, and cost-effective location information for mobile devices. GPS is the de-facto solution for this technology and provides relatively good coverage when outdoors.
For indoor positioning and navigation applications, Loctronix offers both autonomous and networked solutions delivering a "GPS like experience" unequaled by other approaches. For example, Loctronix Doppler Aided Inertial Navigation (DAIN) is an ideal solution for smart phone devices. Exploiting the existing accelerometer, gyro, compass, and gravitational sensors with Loctronix SCP, DAIN based positioning can provide a completely autonomous positioning experience delivering real-time positioning information even outside of cellular network coverage.
